This is a quick-list and guide to help you discern what foods and products to avoid when you are following our program and concerned about hyperactivity and behavioral issues. Even small amounts of these toxic additives if ingested or absorbed through the skin, can cause a reaction in someone who is sensitive. When reading food labels, always look first on the front of the box or product. If it contains artificial colors or artificial flavors, it will often say so. Next, read the ingredient label on the back of the packaging. Many of these additives are actually banned in European countries but legal in the US. Go with your gut feeling, if the food is brightly colored or unnatural looking, it probably is. Identifying these products may seem a little overwhelming at first but, you will get the hang of it quickly. If you want a break from reading labels, you can always pick up some snacks at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market where they are very conscious about stocking their shelves with food that is free of dangerous additives. Sprouts is mostly all natural but do carry some artificial products.
